About
A career built at the intersection of strategy, communication and public engagement.
Biography
Joy Nonzukiso Peter is a South African senior communications and marketing executive whose career spans nearly two decades across government, public institutions, international development, media, the performing arts and the private sector.
She currently serves as Senior Manager: Marketing and Communications at the Agricultural Research Council, where she leads integrated marketing and communications, brand positioning, media relations, stakeholder engagement, digital communications and the delivery of high-profile institutional events.
Her responsibilities extend beyond conventional communications management. She contributes to organisational strategy, supports the translation of strategic priorities into the Annual Performance Plan, oversees the compilation of annual and quarterly performance reports, and manages a national public relations function comprising 13 offices.
Previously, she served as Director: Communications and Spokesperson in the Ministry of Defence and Military Veterans, providing communications counsel at ministerial level and managing public positioning, media engagement, crisis communications and government campaigns.
Her earlier experience includes regional communications at Room to Read, communications leadership at the Playhouse Theatre in Durban, corporate communications at TASIMA and Sechaba Medical Solutions, and foundational work in television, production, publishing and publicity.
This combination of editorial experience, government communications and executive leadership informs her approach to communication: strategic in its planning, disciplined in its execution and attentive to the relationship between institutions and the people they serve.
